There are three bands of color on the Colombian flag, blue, red, and yellow which is twice the size of the other two bands. These colors were chosen after the colors of Gran Colombia. There are two sides to what the colors of the Colombian flag could stand for. One side takes a simple approach and says that the yellow stands for the amount of gold in the country, they say the blue stands for the ocean shores and the red stands for the blood shed for the freedom of the country. The other side takes a more elemental approach. They say that the yellow stands for sovereignty and justice, the blue stands for loyalty and vigilance, and the red stands for valor and generosity.
